Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Hon. Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah has come out to explain the prolonged absence of Jubilee Party Deputy Leader, Hon. Dr. Fred Matiang’i, from key united opposition meetings.
Speaking during an interview with NTV Kenya from Kakamega, Malalah clarified that Dr. Matiang’i has not been avoiding opposition activities as many have speculated. According to him, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary has been busy addressing internal issues within the Jubilee Party following his recent election as its deputy leader.
“Dr. Matiang’i is working behind the scenes to reorganize the Jubilee Party structures. Once he is done, he will officially start attending united opposition meetings across the country,” Malalah stated.

His remarks come amid growing speculation and mixed reactions among Kenyans, particularly supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP faction, who have been questioning Matiang’i’s commitment to the opposition coalition.
Malalah, however, insisted that Matiang’i remains fully committed to the united opposition and that claims of divisions are being spread by rivals in the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
“The narrative that the opposition is divided is a falsehood being pushed by those in UDA who fear a strong, united opposition front,” Malalah asserted.
He further urged opposition supporters to remain patient and united, expressing confidence that the team will soon embark on a series of joint rallies and consultative meetings across the country once internal party matters are fully settled.
Malalah’s remarks now appear to put to rest the ongoing debate surrounding Dr. Matiang’i’s absence, reaffirming his loyalty to the united opposition cause.
