Mt. Kenya Gen Z Youth Disown Rigathi Gachagua as Political Kingpin During US Tour
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s ongoing tour in the United States has hit a major political snag following a stern declaration by youth leaders back home.
Gachagua, who has been spending time in the US meeting members of the Kenyan diaspora, has been actively seeking alliances to bolster his political ambitions aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
However, his efforts to position himself as the unquestioned political leader of Central Kenya have met sudden resistance from a section of young voters in his stronghold.
In a dramatic press briefing held in the Mt. Kenya region, a group of youths representing the Gen Z generation publicly severed ties with the former Deputy President, rejecting his claims to regional leadership.

“We, as Gen Z from Mt. Kenya, have made a firm decision and declared that H.E. Rigathi Gachagua will no longer be our political kingpin,” the youth group announced in a joint statement.
Emphasizing their independence, the group declared themselves the authentic “Voice of the Youth” and insisted that their political future would not be compromised by veteran politicians.
“We refuse to be bought or used as a community. Our voices matter, and our future is not for sale,” they stated. Sending a direct warning to Gachagua as he continues his foreign engagements, the group added: “If you are counting on the votes of the Mt. Kenya community and the support of Gen Z, we want to make it clear that we have withdrawn our support and will no longer follow you.”
The unexpected rebellion has sparked intense political debate across social media, signaling a shift in Central Kenya’s political landscape as the youth demand independent representation ahead of 2027.
