The remarks have placed her at odds with the political atmosphere surrounding Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, with whom Odhiambo has recently had visible political differences.
“Si lazima niinue mkono nikisema WANTAM ama TUTAM,” Odhiambo said, arguing that Wanga could not determine how she should praise or criticize the President.
Odhiambo maintained that her political position should be judged through her own words and actions rather than by whether she uses a particular slogan.
She pointed to development projects in her constituency and said she could acknowledge work undertaken by the national government without adopting language she did not personally choose.
The outspoken legislator has previously criticized the growing use of the “Wantam” and “Tutam” slogans, saying politicians should be allowed to support their preferred candidates and express themselves in their own style.
Her latest remarks therefore add another chapter to the increasingly public political differences within ODM. Reports have previously highlighted disagreements between Odhiambo and allies of Wanga amid wider divisions involving rival factions of the party.
As the 2027 political contest draws closer, Odhiambo’s stance could keep the debate over loyalty, slogans and political independence alive.
