The Malava Constituency by-election has taken a dramatic turn after Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate, Edgar Busiega, announced his withdrawal from the race just days before the polls scheduled for November 27, 2025.
Addressing the media, DCP Deputy Party Leader Hon. Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah confirmed the decision, saying the move was reached after deep consultations among party leaders and allied political stakeholders.
Malalah explained that Busiega’s withdrawal was a strategic step aimed at strengthening the united opposition against the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate, Ndakwa.

He emphasized that unity among opposition forces was essential to securing victory in Malava and sending a strong message of solidarity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We made this decision not out of weakness, but out of strategy,” Malalah stated. “The DCP believes in the bigger picture — building a united front that can defeat the ruling party. Our goal is not just to participate, but to win with a landslide through unity.”
The move has been received with mixed reactions in Malava, with some residents lauding the DCP for prioritizing unity, while others expressed disappointment over Busiega’s exit, citing his growing popularity in the area.
With Busiega out, political analysts say the by-election is now shaping into a two-horse race between DAP-Kenya candidate Seth Panyako and UDP’s Ndakwa, both of whom enjoy strong grassroots support.
As campaigns intensify, all eyes are now on the united opposition coalition to see if their new alliance will indeed deliver a decisive victory in Malava.
