President William Ruto’s ongoing tour of the Ukambani region took an unexpected twist on Thursday after a bold Ukambani legislator openly confronted him during a public event in Emali, Makueni County.
The President, who is on a multi-day development tour across the eastern region, had been accompanied by several leaders aligned to Kenya Kwanza as well as those allied to Wiper Party leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, including Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.
Tensions rose when President Ruto renewed his criticism of Kalonzo, accusing the long-time Ukambani political kingpin of misleading the Kamba community by anchoring them in the opposition, where he argued development opportunities are limited.
The remarks sparked murmurs among the crowd, but it was the response from one courageous leader that quickly went viral.

In a video that has since circulated widely online, the MP whose identity has become the centre of national discussion firmly defended Kalonzo Musyoka, stating that the President had no justification to dismiss the opposition leader’s influence or contribution to the community.
She reminded Ruto that all Kenyans, regardless of their political affiliation, are entitled to development projects funded by taxpayers.
According to the outspoken legislator, the President should prioritize delivering services to the people of Ukambani “just like he does in other regions,” instead of blaming community leaders for their political choices.
Her boldness appeared to catch the President and several dignitaries by surprise, momentarily shifting the atmosphere at the event.
The MP further criticized the government’s flagship Affordable Housing Programme, accusing the administration of failing to properly compensate or resettle residents displaced to make room for the projects.
She pointed out that affected families are often instructed to vacate their homes without clear relocation plans, leaving county governments to shoulder burdens they are neither mandated nor financially equipped to handle.
Her remarks drew loud cheers from sections of the crowd, while the video clip has since sparked mixed reactions nationwide.
Supporters praised her courage, saying she expressed the frustrations of many Kenyans, while critics argued that such confrontations undermine the President’s development agenda in the region.
As President Ruto continues his tour, the exchange has become one of the standout moments of his Ukambani visit, adding a new layer of political tension between Kenya Kwanza and the Wiper-leaning community.
The coming days will likely reveal whether the confrontation influences the region’s political dynamics ahead of future national engagements.
