Former President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, has re-emerged on the national political stage, sending a strong message to the youth ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Though he retired from active politics three years ago, Uhuru’s latest remarks signal a renewed engagement in shaping Kenya’s political future, particularly through the younger generation.
Speaking in a video that has since gone viral on social media, the former Head of State urged Gen Zs and young voters not to sit back and wait for leadership to be handed to them.
Uhuru emphasized that political power is not given freely, but rather fought for through active participation, courage, and determination.

Uhuru, who famously joined hands with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the historic Handshake aimed at fostering political stability, warned that complacency among the youth could cost them their future.
According to him, many young people make the mistake of believing that time alone will eventually usher them into leadership, a notion he strongly dismissed.
“If you keep waiting, you will wait until you are old like me, and leadership will still not be given to you,” Uhuru cautioned.
He challenged young Kenyans to step forward, contest for political positions, register as voters, and actively influence the country’s governance rather than remaining vocal only on social media.
The former president further noted that Kenya’s youth possess the numbers, energy, and ideas needed to transform the nation, but only if they channel that power into structured political action.
He encouraged them to organize themselves, engage in policy discussions, and seek elective seats at all levels of government in 2027.
Uhuru’s message has sparked widespread debate online, with many youths welcoming his call to action, while others view it as a timely reality check.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, his remarks are likely to intensify conversations around youth leadership and political participation in Kenya.
