Ruto Faces Fresh Headwinds as ODM’s Junet Mohamed Issues Direct Warning Over Government Pact
MARALAL, SAMBURU — Fresh friction has rocked President William Ruto’s broad-based political partnership as National Assembly Minority Leader and Suna East MP, Hon. Junet Mohamed, issued a stern warning against undermining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking during an ODM party engagement meeting in Maralal, Samburu County, the vocal legislator made it clear that President Ruto must treat ODM as an equal and respected partner rather than taking its support for granted.
The growing tension inside the political union hinges on whether ODM should continue supporting President Ruto’s administration unconditionally or demand a legally binding, written agreement.

Allies close to senior party leadership—including Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga—have increasingly pushed for a structured arrangement to formalize ODM’s role in the government ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing party delegates, Junet reminded the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership that President Ruto initiated the outreach to secure ODM’s support to stabilize his administration, not the other way around.
He warned that any attempts by UDA figures to thrash or sideline ODM within the broad-based government could backfire heavily on the President’s reelection strategy.
“It is the President who sought out the ODM party for a coalition pact, not us looking for them,” Junet emphasized, cautioning that taking the party’s goodwill for granted could force ODM to reconsider its stance.
Political analysts note that should ODM decide to bolt out of the alliance, President Ruto’s path to securing a smooth second term would face severe roadblocks, leaving the ruling coalition in state of political vulnerability.
