Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sent political shockwaves across the capital following a bold declaration regarding who will control Nairobi County politics in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a local news television interview, Gachagua asserted that the political trajectory of Nairobi will be determined strictly by three key figures: himself, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
“Nairobi city is gone… a possible political alliance involving Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and myself will sweep all 17 elective seats in the capital,” Gachagua stated, predicting an opposition victory.
The former DP’s comments come at a time when various political factions are maneuvering to consolidate power ahead of 2027.
Incumbent Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been positioning himself as a broad-based candidate, bridging ties between government and opposition alliances.

However, Gachagua’s statement signals a coordinated opposition push to dislodge existing power structures in the capital.
Political Realignments & Reactions
Gachagua’s sudden grouping with Babu Owino and Kalonzo Musyoka has ignited widespread debate.
Political observers and citizens across social platforms have largely interpreted the remarks as a soft endorsement of Babu Owino’s growing footprint in city politics, particularly as the lawmaker’s relationship with traditional party structures remains under scrutiny.
By framing himself, Kalonzo, and Babu as the triumvirate that holds the keys to the capital, Gachagua appears to be locking out rival factions and positioning a unified opposition front to dictate the 2027 mayoral and parliamentary races.
As the road to 2027 heats up, all eyes remain on how Sakaja and government-aligned coalitions will counter this emerging power bloc.
