The elder advised that the coffin be removed from the grave and opened. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the deceased had been buried with a necktie still fastened around his neck.
In line with Luhya burial customs, a dead person should never be interred while wearing a tie. Tradition dictates that the tie must be untied and placed beside the deceased inside the coffin before burial.
The elder quickly removed the tie, and when the coffin was lowered again, it fit perfectly into the grave without any resistance — to the amazement of everyone present.
According to local beliefs, failing to remove a tie before burial angers the spirit of the deceased, who is said to “communicate” through mysterious occurrences to demand correction.
The incident has sparked conversations online, with some dismissing it as coincidence while others view it as a reminder of the deep respect African communities still hold for traditional customs and rituals.
Villagers later completed the burial peacefully, convinced that tradition had once again proved its power.
