A strange incident has stirred debate across Kenya after a video surfaced showing a man lighting a candle at the grave of the late opposition leader Raila Amollo Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County.
The man, identified as Ajwang’ Aminda, a close aide to Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, was captured standing by Raila’s resting place late at night at Kang’o ka Jaramogi. In the viral clip, Aminda is seen holding a burning candle while appearing to “speak” to Raila’s spirit — asking who should be the next Kisumu Governor ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the grave, he referred to the late ODM leader by his traditional name, “Amolo son of Nyakoga,” as he allegedly sought spiritual endorsement for Ojienda’s gubernatorial ambitions.

Aminda later claimed that Raila’s spirit had “spoken” to him, confirming Ojienda would succeed in the polls — a statement that has since triggered both ridicule and concern online.
The bizarre act has drawn mixed reactions, with many Kenyans calling it a sign of excessive political fanaticism.
Others have urged authorities to regulate access to the Odinga family compound, saying the site should remain a solemn place of remembrance rather than political theatrics.
“Raila’s grave should now have VIP protection,” wrote Hermon Ogweno, while another user, Perez Okut, condemned the act saying, “Let Baba rest in peace.”
The incident comes amid heightened political attention in Nyanza following Raila’s burial on October 19, which has transformed his home into a constant hub of visitors, dignitaries, and supporters paying tribute to the man long considered the face of Kenya’s democracy.
