Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon. Babu Owino on Saturday became the centre of discussion across social media platforms after delivering a fiery and passionate speech during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party celebrations in Mombasa.
The outspoken and youthful legislator, who has already declared his ambition to unseat Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja in the 2027 general election, used the national stage to express deep frustrations with the party’s recent internal decisions.
During his address, Babu Owino took issue with what he termed as deliberate attempts by some individuals within ODM to sideline him, despite what he described as years of loyalty and sacrifice for the party.
He questioned why he was overlooked in the latest party appointments, saying that the decision reflected a worrying trend of rewarding leaders selectively while ignoring those who have consistently defended and mobilized support for ODM across the country.
“It is unfortunate that after giving my all to this party, I was not given any position. Some people are frustrating me and even blocking me from speaking in ODM meetings,” Babu lamented, attracting cheers and murmurs from the crowd.

He went on to sharply lecture senior party officials, urging them to uphold fairness, inclusivity, and recognition of youthful leaders who continue to carry much of ODM’s grassroots energy.
His bold remarks reignited online debate, with many Kenyans commending his courage while others viewed his comments as signs of growing internal discomfort within the party.
Despite his grievances, Babu reaffirmed his loyalty to the ODM ideals, drawing parallels between his political struggle and that of former party leader Raila Odinga. He vowed to continue defending ordinary citizens, promising that he would not hesitate to call for public demonstrations if the country’s economic situation worsened.
His Mombasa speech, bold and confrontational, has once again positioned him as one of the party’s most vocal and unpredictable figures ahead of 2027.
