Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has officially parted ways with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a colorful ceremony held at the ODM party headquarters, Chungwa House in Nairobi, the capital’s top administrator was seen dancing alongside cheerful supporters and party leaders to popular tunes praising the late ODM party leader, Raila Odinga. The high-profile event officially marked Sakaja’s transition into the Orange party, setting the stage for his 2027 re-election bid.
Shortly after receiving his membership credentials from senior party officials, Governor Sakaja reflected on his long-standing relationship with the former Prime Minister. Addressing the crowd, the county boss revealed details of a crucial, heartfelt conversation he had with the late opposition leader prior to his passing.
According to Sakaja, his final meeting with Mr. Odinga centered heavily on the governance and future of the capital city. The late leader allegedly urged him to prioritize Nairobi’s political and socio-economic stability above partisan rivalries.
Sakaja shared that Odinga specifically asked him to consider joining the Orange movement to build a unified leadership front that ensures seamless service delivery to all residents.
“My last engagement with Baba before his departure was strictly about the people of Nairobi,” Sakaja stated during his address.
He emphasized that the guidance he received focused on maintaining peace, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring that every Kenyan in the capital enjoys the full benefits of effective county governance.
The governor pledged to honor Odinga’s vision by focusing on public service, infrastructure, and socio-economic stability as he anchors his leadership under the ODM banner.
