Kenyans on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, were left shocked after chaotic scenes erupted during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party meeting in Trans-Nzoia County, with videos circulating online showing angry youths burning party-branded T-shirts and shouting at organizers.
The incident occurred in Kitale and quickly sparked debate on social media, with questions raised over the conduct of political mobilization meetings.
According to residents who attended the meeting, tensions flared after claims that participants had been promised KSh 1,500 each as facilitation after the event, only to be given KSh 100.
The alleged discrepancy reportedly angered some attendees, leading to heated confrontations and the destruction of UDA merchandise as police struggled to calm the situation. However, the party has not officially addressed the claims regarding the alleged cash promises.

In a statement shared on its social media platforms, the ruling party chose to focus on what it termed the success of the sensitization exercise, highlighting growing support for UDA in the region.
The party said the meeting attracted new members from rival political outfits, signaling increased confidence in the government’s agenda.
According to UDA, the event was held at Museum Hall in Kitale and was led by UDA Treasurer Hon. Japheth Nyakundi, NEB Commissioner Halake Dida, and the Director for Political and Diaspora Affairs, Nathaniel Mong’are.
The leaders addressed residents as part of preparations for the January 10, 2026, grassroots elections.
Hon. Nyakundi urged Trans-Nzoia residents to join UDA, emphasizing the importance of aligning with the governing party to influence development and decision-making.
Members of County Assemblies and officials from the party secretariat were also present, engaging local leaders and newly recruited members.
Despite the party’s optimistic tone, the chaotic scenes have reignited public debate on political ethics, crowd management, and the alleged use of monetary inducements in party mobilization efforts ahead of grassroots elections.
