Kenyans across the country have shared mixed emotions after a video emerged showing the final resting place of the late Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed.
The video, which has since circulated widely on social media, captures the revered jurist being laid to rest in a remarkably simple and humble grave at the Kariokor Muslim Cemetery in Nairobi.
Justice Ibrahim Mohammed passed away on December 17, 2025, at Aga Khan Hospital after a long battle with illness. According to his family, the judge had earlier been airlifted to India for specialized medical treatment, where he spent some time undergoing intensive care.
However, doctors later advised the family to return him to Kenya for his final rites after his condition became terminal. He was placed under palliative care upon his return and sadly passed on while receiving treatment.

On the day of his burial, mourners witnessed a solemn ceremony conducted strictly in accordance with Islamic traditions. The grave was modest, devoid of pomp or decoration, a sight that deeply moved many Kenyans.
Draped in a white robe, Justice Mohammed’s body was gently lowered into the grave and supported with stones, following Muslim burial rites.
Several prominent figures attended the funeral, among them former Chief Justice David Maraga, who served alongside the late judge at the Supreme Court. In a touching moment, those present took turns throwing soil into the grave as they bid farewell to their colleague, friend, and mentor.
The simplicity of the burial sparked widespread reflection online, with many Kenyans commenting on the fleeting nature of life and the equality of all in death.
“The end is simple,” many remarked, noting how a once-vibrant legal mind and powerful figure returned to the earth with humility and dignity.
Justice Ibrahim Mohammed will be remembered for his service, integrity, and contribution to Kenya’s judiciary. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
