The wife of the late Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader, Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, Mama Ida Odinga, on Friday joined ODM delegates in Bondo, Siaya County, for a crucial party meeting.
The gathering comes just days after the death of her husband, the revered opposition chief and statesman, who passed away in India while receiving treatment.
The meeting, attended by top ODM leaders from across the Nyanza region, was convened to discuss the party’s direction and unity following the untimely loss of its long-time leader.
Mama Ida, appearing composed yet emotional, received a standing ovation as she arrived at the venue, a reflection of the deep respect she commands within the party and the country at large.
According to political analysts, Mama Ida’s presence at the meeting is seen as a strategic step in safeguarding her late husband’s political legacy and ensuring the continuity of ODM’s founding ideals.

Observers believe she may play a central role in guiding the party through this transitional phase, offering moral and political leadership to keep ODM united.
For decades, Mama Ida Odinga stood beside Raila Odinga as his strongest pillar of support — both in political struggles and in the fight for democracy, equality, and justice. Her commitment to her husband’s vision has earned her admiration across Kenya’s political divide.
Many Kenyans have since called on her not to retreat from public life but to continue championing the values Raila Odinga lived and fought for — justice, good governance, and unity.
As ODM begins a new chapter without its founding leader, Mama Ida’s influence could prove instrumental in shaping the party’s future direction.
