Amid the cheers and occasional jeers, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua struck a defiant tone, signaling that his political relevance remains intact despite his dramatic exit from government.
The outspoken leader used the platform to reconnect with his grassroots base, framing his removal from office as a political maneuver that has done little to shake his influence among ordinary citizens.
Gachagua told the crowd that while President William Ruto may have pushed him out of his official role, he still enjoys unwavering support from the people of Nyandarua.
According to him, leadership is not defined by titles but by the bond one shares with the electorate, a bond he insists remains unbroken.
“Ruto removed me from office, but he didn’t remove me from the hearts of Nyandarua residents,” Gachagua declared, drawing loud applause from supporters who waved placards and chanted his name.
The former deputy president accused unnamed political actors of orchestrating his downfall, suggesting that internal power struggles within the ruling alliance led to his removal.
He, however, maintained that such actions have only strengthened his resolve to remain active in national politics.
Political analysts view Gachagua’s remarks as part of a broader strategy to maintain his foothold in the Mt Kenya region, where loyalty and identity politics often play a critical role in shaping electoral outcomes.

By positioning himself as a victim of political betrayal, he appears to be rallying sympathy and consolidating support ahead of future contests.
His remarks also come at a time when divisions within the ruling coalition are becoming increasingly visible, with factions emerging over succession politics and regional influence.
Nyandarua, being a key voting bloc, is expected to play a significant role in determining the direction of these political realignments.
Local leaders who attended the event echoed Gachagua’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for unity while also warning against attempts to sideline leaders who command strong grassroots backing.
Some called for dialogue within the coalition, while others openly criticized what they termed as political intolerance.
Despite the charged rhetoric, Gachagua urged his supporters to remain peaceful and focused, stating that his political journey is far from over.
He hinted at future engagements across the country, signaling a possible nationwide campaign to solidify his base and reassert his influence.
As the crowd dispersed, one thing remained clear the political landscape in Nyandarua, and possibly the wider Mt Kenya region, is far from settled.
With leaders jostling for influence and positioning themselves for future contests, Gachagua’s bold declaration may well mark the beginning of a new chapter in Kenya’s evolving political narrative
