Reports from India indicate that Odinga collapsed while taking his routine morning walk within the premises of an Ayurvedic wellness facility in Koothattukulam, Kerala State.
Medical attendants at the center immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital, but despite frantic efforts to save his life, doctors pronounced him dead at approximately 9:53 a.m. Indian time.
Sources close to the family revealed that Odinga had been under specialized care, seeking alternative therapy to manage health complications. Witnesses said he appeared calm and energetic before the tragic incident.
Back in Kenya, news of Odinga’s death has sent shockwaves across the nation. Leaders from across the political divide and citizens have expressed deep sorrow, describing him as a selfless statesman, freedom fighter, and champion for democracy.
Odinga, 80, served as Kenya’s second Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013 under the Grand Coalition Government. His decades-long struggle for multiparty democracy and social justice earned him admiration both locally and abroad.
Plans for repatriation of his body to Kenya are reportedly underway, with the family expected to release an official statement later today.
