For several weeks now, tensions within the Jubilee Party have dominated political discussions across Kenya. The escalating war of words between party officials has sparked speculation about internal power struggles and the party’s future role in the broader opposition coalition.
Many Kenyans have questioned why key Jubilee figures, including Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, have continued to publicly attack Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, despite the need for cooperation within the opposition to effectively challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
However, a new statement by Njoroge, the Deputy Organizing Secretary of Jubilee, has shed light on former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s position on the ongoing infighting. Taking to her official Facebook page, Njoroge dismissed rumors of division, affirming that Uhuru remains firmly committed to a united opposition front.
“Over the past few days, I have received several calls and messages from friends and followers inquiring about my whereabouts. Thank you for your concern. I have been a bit unwell and in hospital, but now on the path to recovery,” she began, before addressing party politics directly.
According to Njoroge, the Jubilee Party, under the “wise counsel” of its leader Uhuru Kenyatta, had earlier resolved not to field a candidate in Mbeere North, instead choosing to support Newton Karish of DP as the joint opposition candidate. She emphasized that this move was a demonstration of Uhuru’s long-term strategy for unity and collective strength within the opposition.
“President Kenyatta continues to demonstrate statesmanship and long-term vision, one that transcends short-term politics,” she wrote. “His support for unity within the opposition is not just tactical; it is strategic.”
Njoroge further clarified that Dr. Fred Matiang’i and other senior opposition figures are fully aligned with this vision. She warned that individuals attempting to sow discord within Jubilee or the broader opposition movement would ultimately fail.
“Those attempting to sow division and confusion will not succeed. The rest of us remain steadfast under the leadership of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta,” she declared.
The Deputy Organizing Secretary also accused a few individuals of masquerading as official Jubilee spokespersons, spreading misinformation, and attacking leaders aligned with Uhuru’s vision. According to her, these individuals neither hold official positions in the party nor represent its official stance.
Her remarks come at a time when political analysts have warned that continued wrangling within Jubilee could weaken the Azimio coalition, which is seeking to consolidate opposition forces ahead of the next election.
Political observers say Uhuru’s insistence on cooperation reflects his desire to build a cohesive opposition capable of mounting a formidable challenge to President Ruto’s administration in 2027.
As Njoroge concluded her statement, she reaffirmed the party’s unity and loyalty to Uhuru’s leadership, urging members to stay focused on the broader national interest.
“We remain united in mind and spirit under H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, committed to advancing a common opposition agenda that serves Kenya’s best interests.”
