The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Mombasa County Organising Secretary, Peter “Rainbow” Odhiambo.
Odhiambo, a devoted grassroots mobiliser and loyal party member, passed away on Thursday, October 9, leaving a deep void in ODM’s coastal leadership. He was widely respected for his tireless efforts in strengthening ODM’s presence across Mombasa through voter engagement and campaign coordination.
Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir, who also serves as ODM’s Deputy Party Leader, led the tributes. In a statement shared on Thursday evening, Nassir described the late Odhiambo as a passionate and selfless leader who gave his all for the party’s cause.

“On behalf of our Party Leader, H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga, I convey our deepest condolences to the ODM family and the people of Mombasa following the passing of our County Organizing Secretary, Peter ‘Rainbow’ Odhiambo,” Nassir stated. “His loyalty and dedication will remain an inspiration to all of us.”
Odhiambo played a critical role in mobilising support during ODM’s past election campaigns in Mombasa, often coordinating ward-level activities and ensuring smooth campaign logistics. His vibrant spirit earned him the nickname “Rainbow”, symbolising hope and unity among ODM supporters.
His death comes just days after ODM postponed its 20th anniversary celebrations initially scheduled for October 10–12 in Mombasa. The event will now take place from November 14–16 to allow for better logistical planning.
The entire ODM fraternity, led by Raila Odinga, has extended condolences to Odhiambo’s family, friends, and supporters. His legacy as a steadfast champion for democracy and grassroots empowerment will be remembered across Kenya’s political landscape.
