Bondo, Siaya County – Orange Democratic Party (ODM) delegates from the Nyanza region convened on Friday in a crucial meeting to chart the party’s direction following the death of its long-serving leader, the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga.
The gathering, held in Bondo, was chaired by Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga, elder brother to the late Raila Odinga.
The high-profile meeting brought together key ODM figures, including Dr. Ida Odinga, Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and several Members of Parliament and county leaders from the region.
The discussions centered on preserving the unity of the party and maintaining Raila’s political legacy.

After hours of deliberations, the delegates announced a unanimous resolution to endorse Senator Oburu Odinga as the new party leader.
According to a statement released by ODM on its official social media pages, the delegates from Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homabay counties expressed confidence in Oburu’s experience and leadership qualities.
“ODM delegates from the Counties of Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homabay have this afternoon endorsed the Senator of Siaya County, Dr. Oburu Oginga, to succeed our departed leader H.E. Raila Odinga as the party leader,” the statement read. “They believe he has the experience and is capable of steering the party forward.”
Dr. Ida Odinga and other leaders present lauded the decision, emphasizing the need for continuity and unity within ODM.
The endorsement marks a significant step in stabilizing the party as it prepares for internal elections and strategizes for the 2027 general election.
The meeting concluded with a pledge to uphold Raila Odinga’s vision of democracy, justice, and inclusive leadership.
