After the passing of his brother the late Orange democratic Party leader Honorable Raila Odinga. Oburu Odinga who is serving as Siaya County Senator was appointed the acting party leader.
He has henceforth held numerous meetings with ODM party leaders strategizing on the way forward post Raila era.
Well, just after taking over the leadership of the ODM party, Oburu has been asked to run for the President of the republic of Kenya in the 2027 general election.

According to Meru county orange democratic Party followers. Dr. Oburu Odinga should consider running for that top seat in the coming general election. They have vowed to support the Siaya County Senator if he decides to continue with the journey that his late brother Raila Odinga left.
Oburu has not shown any interest in running for the Kenyan top seat. His focus is keeping the Orange democratic Party together with allies that his late brother brought like President William Ruto under the leadership of broad based administration.
