Martha Koome Resurfaces After Criticism In Court For Failing To Do This

Chief Justice Martha Koome has become a subject of discussion at Milimani law courts, Nairobi.

According to the lawyers representing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, it is unconstitutional for a deputy Chief Justice to select a bench of Judges to determine the case when Chief Justice is present.

They submitted that, it is Koome who has power to appoint judges and those powers cannot be delegated. They went on to ask those appointed led by justice Ogolla to rescue themselves.

 Well, Amid the discussion, Chief Justice Martha Koome has resurfaced. She has shared what she was doing today as the heated debate was ongoing at the Milimani Court.

Well, Koome has revealed that she spent her time at Makadara law courts, where she went to inspect the progress of what was happening there.

“I visited Makadara Law Courts this afternoon to gauge the security improvements and efficiency of service to the people.  As we conclude preparations to issue the State of the Judiciary and Administration of Justice Report, we are cognisant of the milestones realised in the FY 2023/24 to bring justice closer to the people. Magistrates Courts have recorded a case clearance rate of 98% with continued improvement. The Judiciary’s commitment is to decongest courts in Nairobi, especially Makadara.” Posted Koome.

“We are working round the clock to address the space and infrastructure challenges at Makadara to enhance the quality and efficiency of service delivery.  We will continue to work with other justice actors through the court users committees to address reported inefficiencies in handling criminal cases, particularly timely plea taking and bail/bond procedures.” Added Koome.
