Martha Karua Speaks On Joining Ruto’s Camp Ahead Of 2027 Poll After This Was Reported

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has refuted claims that she is shifting her political allegiance towards President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza administration.

The senior counsel, who has long positioned herself as one of the president’s fiercest critics, issued a strong rebuttal after an ally of Ruto suggested that she was following in the footsteps of opposition leader Raila Odinga, who recently softened his stance against the government.

The ally claimed in a social media post that Karua was now embracing the justice system under President Ruto and had resolved to rally behind his leadership.

However, Karua was quick to dismiss the assertions, branding them as “fake news” meant to confuse her supporters. Speaking firmly, she reaffirmed her unwavering opposition to the Kenya Kwanza government, while reiterating her alignment with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s “wantam” agenda.

“I do not belong to William Ruto’s praise choir, and I believe he is the most unsuitable character to ever have occupied high office,” Karua said in response to the allegations. “Let my supporters ignore such propaganda. I remain true to my principles and my mission for the people of Kenya.”

Karua made the remarks while addressing residents of Gichugu constituency during her tour of Mururi, Kiamutugu, and Mukinduri markets on June 15, 2025.

The veteran politician emphasized that her stand against the Kenya Kwanza regime had not changed and that she remained committed to offering an alternative voice of accountability.

Her response comes at a time of heightened political realignments as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election. Several opposition figures have recently shown signs of warming up to the government, either through quiet engagements or public endorsements, fueling speculation of a broader reconciliation wave.

Analysts argue that such moves are part of the strategic calculations by political leaders seeking to reposition themselves ahead of the next polls. Raila Odinga’s shifting tone toward the government has particularly set off a ripple effect, leading to speculation about where other opposition heavyweights, including Karua, might stand.

But Karua has consistently drawn a clear line between herself and the president, maintaining that her role is to push for transparency, justice, and democratic accountability.

She noted that attempts to link her to Ruto’s camp were deliberate attempts to weaken her political influence and confuse her support base.

The PLP leader further criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration’s track record, citing economic hardships, runaway corruption, and what she described as “a betrayal of the common citizen.” According to Karua, Kenyans deserved better leadership than what they were currently witnessing under Ruto’s government.

As the 2027 campaigns gradually take shape, Karua’s defiant stance signals her determination to remain in the opposition fold and possibly build stronger alliances with leaders who share her vision. Her rejection of the alleged political realignment underscores her belief that Kenya’s democracy needs a strong counterweight to those in power.

For now, Karua insists she will not be swayed by political propaganda, stressing that her principles remain intact and her loyalty lies with the people, not the corridors of power.
