A Member of Parliament from Kisii County is facing a lot of criticism after CCTV footage showed him attacking a 36-year-old man in a Kisii Town restaurant. Authorities say this may be the result of a violent love triangle.
Omariba Moriasi, the victim, went to the Kisii Central Police Station on Thursday, November 27, to report the assault.
According to the complaint, while Moriasi was having breakfast, the MP allegedly entered the restaurant and launched a physical attack, shouting that Moriasi must “respect him” and accusing him of involvement with the MP’s partner.

The MP is seen beating the man, while someone else who attempted to separate them was also struck.Before submitting the allegations, Moriasi received a P3 medical examination form after suffering injuries.

His legal team is furious that, despite what they call “clear evidence” and “completed formal procedures,” the MP is still at large and no arrests have been made almost a week after the incident.This incident has increased awareness of elected officials’ impunity and sparked national outrage.
The delay in police action has been denounced by civil society organizations and legal experts, who claim it sends a dangerous message that lawmakers, even those who have been caught assaulting people in public, can avoid accountability.
“This is not just about an individual being beaten. It’s about upholding the law and equal justice for every citizen,” said one human rights advocate, calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to act swiftly.
