From the recent Malava by-election, Martha Karua has strongly criticized, saying it was full of bribery, intimidation, and open manipulation. Speaking in Matende village, south Kabras, Kakamega County, during the burial of her close friend, she stated that the opposition will reorganize, assess what transpired, and devise their next course of action.
At the funeral Karua condemned the way the by-election was conducted. She asserted that rather than being presented with genuine development ideas and policies, voters were given mattresses and other household items.

She warned voters against being persuaded by temporary gifts, pointing out that purchasing a mattress now won’t address more serious issues like schools lacking adequate funding or hospitals lacking medication.Karua added that leaders who win through handouts only push communities deeper into poverty.
Votes, according to her, ought to be determined by service, vision, and actual advancement rather than short-term gains.According to Karua, the opposition will convene to assess the entire campaign, consider what went wrong, look into the alleged misconduct, and determine how to proceed.
