Wiper Party leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka has hit back at President William Ruto following remarks the Head of State made while in Emali, Makueni County, accusing Kalonzo of misleading the Kamba community.
While addressing residents in Emali earlier in the week, President Ruto claimed that despite Kalonzo’s long tenure in national leadership, he had little to show in terms of development in the Ukambani region.
The President alleged that Kalonzo had wasted numerous opportunities to transform the region when he served in senior government positions, including as Vice President.
However, in a swift response delivered on Thursday, just hours after President Ruto faced heckling from a section of residents during his visit to Kitui County, Kalonzo accused the President of resorting to cheap political propaganda instead of delivering on his promises.

Speaking during a meeting with local leaders in Mwingi, Kalonzo said that Ruto had no moral authority to lecture anyone on development. He accused the President of re-launching old projects initiated during previous administrations, rather than implementing new and meaningful initiatives to uplift Kenyans.
“Every time he visits our region, he comes with the same speeches and the same promises. He keeps launching the same projects that were launched many years ago, only changing the ribbon color,” Kalonzo stated.
“Kenyans are not fools. They are tired of recycled promises and photo opportunities. That is why in 2027, they will ensure he becomes a one-term president.”
Kalonzo further defended his record, noting that as Vice President and Cabinet Minister, he had played a key role in several national programs that benefited millions of Kenyans. He urged the people of Ukambani to remain united and reject attempts to divide them along political lines.
Political analysts have observed that the escalating exchange between the two leaders highlights the growing tension ahead of the 2027 general election, with Kalonzo increasingly positioning himself as the face of the united opposition.
As the political temperature continues to rise, both leaders appear determined to consolidate their influence in the vote-rich Eastern region — a battleground expected to play a crucial role in shaping Kenya’s next presidential race.
