Political tensions within Kenya’s opposition coalition have erupted after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka strongly rejected statements made by Gachagua claiming they had agreed on a power-sharing plan for Nairobi’s 2027 elective seats.
Ahead of the general election in 2027, the denial has revealed deep divisions and sparked doubts about the opposition’s unity and coherence.
Speaking on November 30, 2025, at a church service in Mukuni, Machakos County, Kalonzo laughed off the rumored agreement as “cheap propaganda” designed to sow discord between him and Gachagua.
He cautioned supporters against falling for what he called an intentional attempt to sow division among the opposition.

On that same day, Gachagua asserted that the DCP would win control of 75 out of 85 ward seats as well as the governorship, senate, women’s representative seat, and 16 out of 17 parliamentary seats in Nairobi under a joint opposition framework with Wiper.
Gachagua framed the move as a strategic “takeover” of Nairobi, asserting that DCP with Wiper’s backing would replace existing party dominance and deliver a unified opposition front in the capital.Kalonzo wasted little time in countering the claims.
He insisted that no agreement had been made, that no decision had been taken in any official party forum, and that the rumors circulated about Nairobi seat sharing were fabricated to create division.
In the wake of the ruling side’s recent by-election defeats, he also accused unidentified state actors of fabricating and spreading the narrative, implying that the propaganda was meant to weaken the opposition’s unity.
“They want to create distrust between Kalonzo and Gachagua,” he said, dismissing the claims as political theater.
