Kenya is in mourning once again, barely weeks after the nation lost former Orange Democratic Party leader Honorable Raila Odinga and days following the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Honorable Cyrus Jirongo.
Today, the judiciary joins the country in grief as Supreme Court Judge Justice Mohammed Ibrahim has passed away.
Sources close to the family report that Justice Ibrahim had traveled to India seeking medical treatment.
However, doctors later advised that he return to Kenya, where he would spend his final days. His death marks a significant loss to the Kenyan judicial system, where he was widely respected for his dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
Justice Ibrahim’s illustrious career began when he was appointed as a Judge of the inaugural Supreme Court of Kenya on June 16, 2011, following a rigorous and competitive selection process.

Over the years, he played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s legal landscape, particularly in upholding constitutional principles and ensuring the independence of the judiciary.
In addition to his role on the Supreme Court, Justice Ibrahim served as the Chairperson of the Judiciary Committee on Elections, a position he assumed on August 16, 2021, following an appointment by the Chief Justice.
In this capacity, he oversaw critical electoral processes, contributing to the credibility and transparency of Kenya’s elections.
Further highlighting his commitment to judicial service, Justice Ibrahim was elected on May 17, 2022, to represent the Supreme Court as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), where he continued to influence reforms and policy decisions within the judiciary.
