Authorities in Siaya County have launched investigations into an examination malpractice incident at Rachar Secondary School in Rarieda Sub-county, where a section of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Mathematics Paper 1 was allegedly leaked.
According to a report from the Regional Director of Education, Nyanza, a photograph of the paper was detected by the national examination operations centre in Nairobi moments after being taken from the school.
The alarm prompted an immediate response from the Sub-county security team, the Sub-county Director of Education, and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) director, who rushed to the scene.
Upon conducting a search, officials discovered that Questions 17 and 21 of the paper had been worked out and multiple photocopies made using a school printer that had been moved to one of the staff houses.

The alleged mastermind, identified as Mathematics teacher Dennis Okinyi, fled the premises after spotting the approaching security officers.
A mobile phone believed to have been used in the crime was recovered, along with the phones of other examination officials. All the devices have been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for forensic analysis to establish the chain of communication and possible accomplices.
The school principal, who also served as the centre manager, was arrested and taken in for questioning. In addition, the entire examination team — including the centre manager, supervisor, invigilators, and police officers on duty — was withdrawn from the centre and replaced by a new team to ensure the smooth continuation of the exams.
Officials confirmed that despite the incident, the examination process resumed without further disruption. The Ministry of Education has reiterated its commitment to uphold the integrity of national examinations and warned that anyone found engaging in cheating or leaking exam materials will face severe disciplinary and legal action.
