The death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Honorable Cyrus Jirongo has continued to spark widespread debate and emotional reactions across the country, as Kenyans seek clarity over the circumstances that led to his tragic demise.
Jirongo passed away following a road accident involving a public service vehicle, a Climax bus that was traveling from Nairobi to Busia County.
Questions had emerged over Jirongo’s movements in the hours before the accident, as well as the exact cause of death, prompting calls from leaders, family members, and the public for an independent and transparent postmortem.
Those questions were addressed on Tuesday after a pathologist representing the family released official findings from the examination.

Speaking to the press, family pathologist Dr. Joseph Ndugu confirmed that the late legislator died from severe traumatic injuries consistent with a high-impact road accident.
Dr. Ndugu stated that the postmortem revealed extensive blunt force trauma affecting multiple parts of the body, including the head, abdomen, and lower limbs.
According to the findings, Jirongo suffered fractures to the skull and ribs, with the chest injuries extending to the heart.
The pathologist further revealed that there was fluid accumulation in the abdomen, a strong indicator of ruptured internal organs caused by the impact. These injuries, he explained, were critical and ultimately fatal.
“The cause of death was traumatic injuries resulting from blunt force trauma, possibly sustained during the accident,” Dr. Ndugu said, adding that the injuries were consistent with a violent collision.
Earlier, the bus driver involved in the accident claimed that Jirongo failed to give way, leading to the fatal impact. Investigations into the accident are still ongoing, with authorities expected to provide further updates.
As the family mourns, the postmortem report is expected to ease speculation and allow preparations for Jirongo’s burial to proceed, even as Kenyans continue to pay tribute to the former legislator’s political legacy.
