A cloud of shock and disbelief engulfed Nairobi on Monday, October 13, after a General Service Unit (GSU) officer attached to the State House was fatally attacked with a spear. The tragic incident occurred at Gate D, one of the most secured access points to the presidential residence.
According to police reports, the officer, who was on duty with colleagues, was struck in the chest by an assailant armed with a traditional spear. The victim, identified as a member of the elite G Company, sustained deep injuries and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival due to severe bleeding.
Authorities have arrested a 56-year-old Kenyan man believed to be behind the attack. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect approached the area disguised as a homeless person, concealing a spear inside a sack. Witnesses say he hid behind a flower bed near the entrance before suddenly emerging and attacking the unsuspecting officer.

Police sources disclosed that the suspect claimed during interrogation that he was “sent by satan” to carry out the act, though the motive remains unclear. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a full inquiry to determine whether the attacker acted alone or under external influence.
At the time of the incident, the slain officer and his team were inspecting a vehicle entering the State House compound — part of routine security operations. The attack has raised serious concerns about security protocols at one of Kenya’s most fortified installations.
Following the killing, heavy security was deployed around the State House perimeter. President William Ruto, who was reportedly within the compound preparing to leave for an event in Konza City, was quickly secured by his protection unit.
The GSU’s G Company is responsible for guarding the State House, State Lodges, and other presidential residences across the country. They work in close coordination with the Presidential Escort Unit, which handles the President and his family’s movements. Combined, these units form the core of the nation’s top-level protection system.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish whether the attacker had prior contact with the officer or if the assault was part of a larger plot. Security experts have also urged the government to review procedures for managing public access points such as Gate D, which occasionally allows controlled entry to civilians and visitors.
This chilling incident comes just a day after another GSU officer was murdered near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) under mysterious circumstances. The officer was reportedly strangled and drowned by a suspect who has since been arrested.
