
Former State House Master of Ceremonies and veteran broadcaster Sammy Lui Wang’ondu has passed away.
The celebrated media personality, who once graced national events with his powerful voice and commanding presence, died on the morning of Thursday, October 23, 2025, his son Chris Wang’ondu confirmed.
Lui’s death marks the end of an era for Kenya’s broadcasting and state event management circles.
Known for his articulate English and deep, resonant voice, Sammy Lui was a familiar sound to millions of Kenyans during presidential functions and national celebrations.

Before joining the Office of the President as Director of State Functions, Lui had a distinguished media career. He began at the Voice of Kenya (VoK)—the predecessor to KBC—where he honed his skills as a news anchor and program host.
He later joined KTN News, becoming one of the country’s pioneering television broadcasters before transitioning into government service.
Throughout his tenure, Sammy Lui served under three administrations: the late President Daniel arap Moi, President Mwai Kibaki, and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. His eloquence and composure.
