The charges stem from ongoing investigations into suspected fraud, abuse of office, and bribery related to three county projects: the Rehabilitation of Kenyatta Stadium (Phase 1A), construction of County Headquarters Offices, and Tom Mboya Hospital, all said to have been marred by irregular tendering and alleged kickbacks during the 2022/2023 to 2024/2025 financial years.
Simultaneously, EACC officers conducted search operations at various locations, including Natembeya’s official residence in Kitale and premises linked to persons of interest.
The arrest has ignited political uproar, with DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa condemning it as a politically motivated move targeting opposition leaders, likening it to recent actions against DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua and Mumias East MP Peter Salasya.
