Trans Nzoia County Governor His Excellency George Natembeya has addressed growing speculation following a high-profile meeting with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, held today at his office in Kitale.
The meeting has ignited political debate, with some quarters claiming that Natembeya could be on the verge of joining the Jubilee Party.
Governor Natembeya, a first-term county boss and the leader of the TAWE Movement, hosted Dr. Matiang’i, who currently serves as the Jubilee Party Deputy Leader.
Matiang’i was accompanied by Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka, a close ally who has been at the forefront of campaigns encouraging the former CS to contest for the presidency in the next general election.
The visit immediately fueled speculation, especially within Trans Nzoia and Western Kenya political circles, that Matiang’i was attempting to lure Natembeya into Jubilee as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support ahead of 2027.

However, Natembeya moved swiftly to clarify the purpose of the meeting and calm the political waters.
In a statement released after the engagement, Natembeya described the visit as a “courtesy call,” emphasizing that the meeting was an opportunity to reconnect and reflect on their past service together at the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
He noted that the discussions focused on shared values and a collective vision for a transformed Kenya.
“Our discussions centered on our shared vision for a people-centric Kenya anchored on effective leadership, integrity, and service to the people,” Natembeya said, adding that it was encouraging to rekindle memories and ideals that continue to guide their commitment to public service.
The governor stopped short of confirming any plans to ditch TAWE or formally join Jubilee, insisting that the meeting should not be over-politicized.
Political analysts say the engagement nonetheless signals growing behind-the-scenes consultations among opposition-leaning leaders as realignments begin to take shape.
As the 2027 succession politics slowly gather momentum, such meetings are expected to continue, keeping Kenyans guessing about the next big political move.
