Celebrated journalist Jeff Koinange has finally spoken out after widespread rumours circulated online claiming he had passed away. The speculation, which began late Sunday night, left many Kenyans deeply worried, especially after one social media user alleged that the veteran broadcaster had been ill “for a while” and had “finally rested.”
The alarming claims spread rapidly across TikTok, Facebook, and X, prompting friends, colleagues, and fans to seek clarity. One of the individuals who grew increasingly concerned was digital content creator and social media personality Xtian Dela.
According to Dela, the rumours felt unsettling, especially due to Koinange’s months-long absence from his prime-time news programme and his well-loved talk show, Jeff Koinange Live (JKL).
To verify the truth, Dela reached out to the journalist on WhatsApp on the night of November 23.
His messages—later shared publicly to dispel misinformation—showed genuine worry as he asked Koinange if he was safe and whether the viral death claims were true.
“Bro bro bro! You’re good? You’re safe? Bro, TikTok has me worried… spreading about your death. Just confirm you’re still here. Bro?” Dela wrote.

Early on Monday morning, November 24, Koinange responded with a short but reassuring message: “Bro bro. I’m alive and kicking.” His confirmation immediately put the rumours to rest and sparked widespread relief among Kenyans.
Dela, who said he spent the night “crying and making calls everywhere,” criticised bloggers and online clout chasers for spreading harmful misinformation without verification.
“Shame on clout chasers! This is not funny to some of us,” he posted on X while sharing the screenshot.

Kenyans online joined him in condemning the behaviour, noting that such reckless claims can push families into panic and emotional distress.
Several users called for urgent enforcement of stronger cyber laws to curb misinformation, with some insisting that individuals who intentionally spread false death announcements should face consequences.
Meanwhile, friends and fans of Jeff Koinange expressed relief and sent him messages of goodwill and continued support. “May God protect Jeff. We still need him,” wrote one supporter. Others praised Dela for taking the initiative to confirm the truth and calm the nation.
Koinange has been off-air since August 2025, a break that has fueled ongoing speculation in recent months. Neither Citizen TV nor the journalist has issued an official statement explaining the hiatus.
However, a recent video shared by radio presenter Maina Kageni showed the two walking together, with Koinange assuring fans that he would be “back very soon.”
“Hey folks… all is good all the time, and I am going to be back very soon. Sooner than you know,” he said in the clip, further dispelling concerns about his wellbeing.
As Kenyans continue to grapple with the rise of online misinformation, Koinange’s experience has reignited national conversations about responsible digital behaviour and the need for stronger regulation. For now, the veteran broadcaster has made one thing clear: he is healthy, resting, and very much alive.
