Homa Bay County is in turmoil following Governor Gladys Wanga’s announcement on December 1, 2025, of a comprehensive cabinet reorganization that strips her Deputy Governor, Oyugi Magwanga, of his additional duties as a member of the County Executive Committee (CEC) for Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Development.
The action comes just days after Magwanga broke ranks to publicly campaign for an independent candidate in the recent by-election for Kasipul Constituency a move widely viewed as defiance against Wanga and party directives. Magwanga had publicly supported the rival candidate, defying the leadership of the ruling party.

The reshuffle also saw the appointment of the current Roads, Public Works, Transport, and Infrastructure CEC, Danish Onyango, as the acting CEC for Agriculture, taking over the docket previously held by Magwanga.
Furthermore, Wanga dismissed the Lands and Urban Planning CEC, replacing him with a new nominee pending vetting by the County Assembly.
The major shake-up follows the by-election in Kasipul Constituency, where the candidate supported by Governor Wanga and the ruling party succeeded.
The public was outraged, and political tensions within Homa Bay’s leadership increased as a result of Magwanga’s endorsement of a competing independent candidate
.Addressing the reorganization in public, Governor Wanga declared that her administration would no longer put up with internal disagreements.
She insisted that officials unwilling to align with county priorities should step aside, reinforcing her demand for loyalty and discipline among her team.
