Homa Bay County Governor, Gladys Wanga, has broken her silence following the tragic scenes of violence that rocked Kasipul Constituency on Thursday, November 6, 2025, leaving at least two people dead and several others injured.
According to reports, chaos erupted after supporters of Philip Aroko, an independent candidate, clashed with those allied to Boyd Were, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate and son of the late Ong’ondo Were, who was assassinated in Nairobi a few months ago.
The confrontation occurred during a campaign rally in Central Kasipul Ward, disrupting political activities and sparking widespread tension across the constituency.
Governor Wanga condemned the violence, describing it as “unacceptable and shameful,” and urged the police to conduct swift investigations to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the injuries suffered by innocent residents. I call upon our law enforcement agencies to move with speed and ensure that those behind this chaos are brought to justice,” Wanga said. “Political competition should never cost human lives. I urge all residents to remain calm and embrace peace as we head into the by-election.”
Wanga emphasized that Homa Bay County would not tolerate politically motivated violence and reminded leaders to conduct their campaigns with decorum and respect for democratic principles.

In a heartfelt statement, ODM candidate Boyd Were also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives, condemning the attack on his rally in Opondo area.
“I come before you today with a heavy heart following the unfortunate incident that occurred during my recent function in Central Kasipul Ward. In the confusion that followed, we lost two innocent lives,” Boyd said.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and called on residents to reject violence and stand together for peace.
“My campaign and leadership are built on the principles of peace, respect, and service to all. Even in our grief, let us not lose hope. Let us remain calm, resist anger, and stand firm in our shared belief that peace is stronger than division,” he added.
As investigations continue, tension remains high in Kasipul, with security officers deployed to restore calm and prevent further clashes. Governor Wanga has assured residents that her administration will support the victims’ families and work with security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the county.
