Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again hit out at President William Ruto, accusing him of betraying the Mount Kenya region following his impeachment from the deputy president’s office.
In recent months, Gachagua has embarked on a nationwide campaign urging Kenyans to deny Ruto a second term in 2027, maintaining that the Head of State should serve only one term.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with KTN News at his Karen residence, Gachagua made it clear that there is no possibility of reconciling with President Ruto.
He argued that the people of Mount Kenya would completely abandon him if he were to reconsider his stand and support Ruto’s re-election bid.

“Supporting Ruto again would be political suicide. The people of Mount Kenya will never forgive me if I take that route,” Gachagua said, stressing that his region feels shortchanged by the current administration.
He compared the situation to the 2022 general election, when Mount Kenya voters rejected former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s push to back Raila Odinga, choosing instead to align with Ruto at the time. “We told Uhuru not to impose Raila on us, and now Ruto has done the same to us. We won’t allow that again,” he added.
Gachagua affirmed that he is no longer interested in mending ties with the President and that his focus remains on uniting opposition forces to send Ruto home in 2027.
His remarks underscore the widening political rift between the former allies and signal an intensifying political battle ahead of the next general election.
