Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again sparked political debate after drawing a sharp comparison between President William Ruto’s fate in the upcoming 2027 general election and that of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in 1992.
Speaking during an interview with KTN News, Gachagua claimed that President Ruto will face a political downfall similar to what Raila experienced decades ago when he failed to secure the presidency despite massive popularity.
Gachagua alleged that the people of Mount Kenya have made up their minds not to support Ruto again, accusing him of betrayal and neglecting the region that overwhelmingly backed him in 2022.

According to Gachagua, the Kikuyu community has resolved to treat Ruto in the same way they have treated Raila Odinga for years — with political rejection.
He revealed that in 1992, a significant section of Kikuyu elders allegedly took an oath never to support Raila, a decision that has shaped his political journey ever since.
“Raila was rejected in 1992 because of a historical oath, and Ruto will face the same fate in 2027. Our people have agreed that they will never vote for him again after how he betrayed us,” Gachagua stated.
The former Deputy President added that Ruto’s broken promises to the Mount Kenya region, including stalled development projects and perceived political isolation of key allies, have completely eroded the trust once enjoyed by the president.
His remarks have stirred fresh debate across the country, with analysts suggesting that Gachagua’s statements could signal the beginning of a deep political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
