Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised fresh concerns over the credibility of the upcoming 2027 General Election, warning that there are loopholes that could allow manipulation of results if not addressed early.
Speaking during a televised interview on Sunday, Gachagua urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and demand transparency from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
According to Gachagua, the only guaranteed way to stop rigging is to ensure that presidential results are confirmed and documented at the constituency level before being transmitted to Nairobi.
He emphasized that each polling station and constituency returning officer should take clear photographs of the signed result forms and share them publicly to enhance transparency.

“The people must insist that results are tallied and confirmed at the constituency level. Let every presiding officer take a picture of the final form and share it. That way, no one will tamper with the figures later,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President further proposed that the IEBC should abolish the Bomas of Kenya national tallying center, which he described as a “hotbed of manipulation.” He claimed that it is at Bomas where election data is often altered before final results are announced.
“We don’t need Bomas. That’s where the confusion begins. Once results are confirmed at the constituency level, that should be final,” he added.
Gachagua’s remarks come amid growing political realignments and debates over electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 polls. His call for decentralized verification is likely to reignite discussions within the opposition and the electoral body on how to safeguard Kenya’s democracy and restore public confidence in the voting process.
