The Democratic Congress Party (DCP) fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the death of Mzee Dan Nabwera, the father of Malava Constituency by-election candidate Edgar Busiega Mwanga.
Mzee Nabwera passed away earlier today in Kisumu, plunging the family, supporters and the party into deep grief just days before the crucial by-election.
Senator Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah, who also serves as the DCP Deputy Party Leader, led the party in condoling with Mwanga, describing the late Mzee Nabwera as a dedicated and principled man who served the people of Malava with dignity throughout his life.
“My brother Edgar Busiega Mwanga, please accept my deepest and heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved father, Mzee Dan Nabwera, earlier today in Kisumu,” Malalah stated.
“Losing a parent is an immeasurable sorrow, and no words can fully ease the pain you and your family are experiencing at this moment.”
The Senator went on to honour the legacy of the late Mzee Nabwera, acknowledging his contribution to society and the values he instilled in his family—values that he said are evident in Mwanga’s leadership and character.
“Mzee Dan Nabwera will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the values, strength, and dignity he imparted; qualities that clearly live on through you. May the legacy he leaves behind continue to guide and uplift you, especially during this difficult season,” Malalah added.
The death comes at a time when Mwanga has been fronting an energetic campaign in Malava, positioning himself as a unifying figure for the constituency. According to Malalah, Mwanga has demonstrated commitment and honour in serving the Kabaras community and Kenya at large, qualities that his father helped nurture.
“As you have stood firmly and honorably in service to the Kabaras Nation and Kenya at large, and as the DCP Party’s candidate for the Malava Constituency by-election, may you find the same strength, solidarity, and compassion from those around you to accept God’s doing today.”
Malalah assured Mwanga that the DCP Party stands with him during this trying period, offering prayers and emotional support as he navigates both family grief and political responsibility.
“On behalf of the DCP Party, we stand with you, praying that God grants you comfort, courage, and peace.”
The party has indicated that further details regarding burial arrangements will be communicated in consultation with the family.
Residents of Malava and political leaders across Kakamega County have also begun sending their condolences, remembering Mzee Nabwera as a humble, community-oriented elder who contributed positively to local cohesion and development.
As the by-election approaches, Mwanga now faces the dual weight of personal loss and public expectation. However, Malalah expressed confidence that the strength and wisdom of Mzee Nabwera’s legacy will continue to guide him.
“May Mzee Nabwera’s soul rest in eternal serenity, and may you and your family find healing in the love and memories you shared with him.”
The Malava by-election is scheduled to take place in the coming days, with Mwanga expected to announce the way forward regarding campaign activities after consulting with his family.
