For nearly two weeks since the passing of the late Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader, Hon. Raila Odinga, political leaders allied to the Democratic Conservative Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, had noticeably kept away from Bondo, Siaya County — the final resting place of the veteran opposition leader.
Speculation had been rife earlier this week that DCP leader Gachagua would make his way to Bondo to pay his last respects to the fallen statesman.
However, the anticipated visit did not take place, fueling mixed reactions among political observers and supporters of both parties.
In what appears to mark a shift in tone, DCP leaders have now made their way to Siaya.
According to posts shared on social media by Laikipia Senator John Methu and Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, the two leaders visited the home of the late Raila Odinga on Wednesday morning. They were received by Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga, Raila’s elder brother.

“This morning, in the company of my brother Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, we visited our colleague Sen. Dr. Oburu Odinga to offer our condolences following the sudden passing on of his brother Raila Odinga,” Senator Methu shared in a post.
The senators also used the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Oburu Odinga on assuming the role of ODM party leader, following the death of his brother. “We wished him well as he steers the party forward,” Methu added.
Their visit has been seen by analysts as a gesture of unity and reconciliation, signaling possible efforts to ease political tensions between the DCP and ODM camps following the loss of one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.
