Political tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) continue to simmer as disagreements over internal processes and party direction deepen ahead of a highly anticipated delegates convention. Senior leaders within the party have recently been engaged in intense consultations, with various factions expressing different views on the future of the movement and how its internal affairs should be handled.
The discussions come at a time when the party is preparing for an important gathering expected to shape its political strategy and leadership direction.
Delegates from across the country are expected to attend the convention, which has been described as a key moment for the party as it reorganises its structures and outlines its agenda for the coming years.
However, remarks by James Orengo have added a new layer of intrigue to the preparations.
Speaking during a political forum, the seasoned politician addressed concerns about the absence of certain members affiliated with the Linda Mwananchi faction, a group that has in recent months voiced criticism over how the party is being managed.
According to Orengo, the faction will not participate in the upcoming delegates convention due to unresolved issues regarding internal democracy and the direction of the party leadership.
He indicated that members aligned with the Linda Mwananchi group feel their concerns have not been adequately addressed, leading to their decision to stay away from the event.

Orengo said the faction believes the convention may not provide the platform they had hoped for to discuss reforms within the party.
He argued that some members fear that key decisions could be made without sufficient consultation with grassroots supporters who form the backbone of the party.
The remarks have reignited debate among party supporters and political analysts about the unity of the party that has long been associated with veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
ODM has played a central role in Kenya’s political landscape for nearly two decades and remains one of the country’s most influential political movements.
Political observers say the decision by the Linda Mwananchi faction to skip the convention could signal deeper divisions within the party if dialogue is not pursued quickly.
Some analysts warn that prolonged disagreements could weaken the party’s organisational strength ahead of future political contests.
Despite the concerns raised, Orengo emphasised the importance of continued engagement among party members, noting that differences of opinion are not unusual in large political organisations.
He urged leaders and supporters to prioritise unity and constructive dialogue as the party moves forward.
As the date of the convention draws closer, attention is now shifting to how the party leadership will respond to the concerns raised by the faction and whether efforts will be made to bridge the divide.
