DCP Deputy Party Leader Honorable Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah has officially introduced rugby sevens to his annual Cleo Malalah Super Cup, further expanding one of Western Kenya’s most impactful grassroots sports tournaments.
The move, unveiled through the Cleo Malalah 7s initiative, is expected to elevate the tournament’s profile while opening new opportunities for young rugby talent.
According to details released on the official tournament poster, the highly anticipated rugby sevens competition will run from 25th to 31st December 2025 at the popular Bull Ring grounds in Kakamega County.

Now in its seventh year—having only paused during the COVID-19 period—the Cleo Malalah Super Cup has built a strong reputation for nurturing talent and offering youths an alternative path away from drugs, crime, and substance abuse.
Through structured competitions and exposure to professionals, the tournament continues to empower young people to earn from their sporting abilities.
The introduction of rugby 7s is expected to broaden participation beyond football, with teams drawn from at least four Western region counties and several guest teams set to grace the tournament.
With competitive prizes on offer, excitement is already building among players and supporters alike.
Malalah’s growing influence in grassroots sports development has attracted praise from many quarters, with sports enthusiasts commending his commitment and questioning why he was not considered for the Sports Cabinet Secretary role.
His hands-on approach, they argue, reflects a deep understanding of sports as a tool for social and economic transformation.
Beyond sports, the week-long event is projected to boost local business activity in Kakamega, as vendors and traders benefit from large crowds expected at the Bull Ring during the festive period.
