Busia County senator Honorable Okiya Omutata was arrested on December 30, 2024 for allegedly leading unlawful protest in Nairobi. Him, together with other Kenyans were picked from the streets by heavily armed Police officers and taken to Kamukunji. Later was moved to Gigiri police station before being Presented to courts today.
At Milimani law court, him and others were charged for inciting the public against the government and unlawful gathering.
The prosection team is seeking to hold them for 14 days as they conclude their investigation. They are seeking to extract crucial evidence from their phones that will help the team to have good case.

Well, as he is fighting for his freedom and that of the rest of those arested. He has received some bad news from Busia, his own county.
According to information shared, youth caucuses from Busia are demanding for the resignation of Omutata. They claim that he has failed to deliver his mandate as an area Senator and is now focusing on slideshows.
“Busia Youth Caucus demands the immediate resignation of Senator Okiya Omtatah; says he has failed to live up to the expectations of his office and has lost the confidence of the people he represents.” Report.
