The race for the united opposition presidential flag bearer continues to stir political debate across the country, with many Kenyans closely watching Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as a potential candidate. Kalonzo has been actively engaging with various opposition leaders, fueling speculation that he could be the coalition’s front-runner in the upcoming general election.
However, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Hon. Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah has poured cold water on those assumptions, insisting that Kalonzo Musyoka has not yet been appointed as the official opposition leader.
Speaking during a press briefing, Malalah clarified that the position of the united opposition presidential flag bearer remains open. He emphasized that the coalition will soon convene to agree on a fair and strategic formula for selecting the most suitable candidate to challenge the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) in the 2027 general election.
“The united opposition is still in the process of identifying one candidate who can command national support,” Malalah said. “Kalonzo Musyoka is a respected leader, but the position is not his automatically. DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua is equally capable of vying for the top seat, as are other leaders like Eugene Wamalwa, George Natembeya, Martha Karua, and Justin Muturi.”
Malalah’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some interpreting them as signs of underlying competition within the opposition alliance. Nonetheless, he assured that unity talks are ongoing and that the opposition remains focused on presenting a strong, united front in 2027.
As the political temperature rises, Kenyans are keenly watching to see who will eventually. emerge as the face of the united opposition
