Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon. Babu Owino was on Thursday, October 2, 2025, accorded a heroic reception during the burial of former Karachuonyo MP, the late Dalmus Otieno.
The event, which drew hundreds of mourners, quickly turned into a charged political moment as crowds surged past security barriers, demanding to catch a glimpse of the youthful legislator.
Owino, who was invited to address the gathering, received thunderous applause as supporters jostled to hear his remarks.
However, his presence also sparked a wave of tension as Kisumu County youth took the opportunity to remind him of the unwritten rules of respect within Luo Nyanza politics.
In a strong statement following the burial, youth leaders emphasized that loyalty and reverence towards key community leaders remain paramount.

“Respect is non-negotiable,” they declared. “Hon. Raila Odinga and Dr. Raymond Omollo are not just political figures – they are treasures of the Luo community. Their legacy, sacrifice, and wisdom must be honored and protected at all costs.”
The statement appeared to be a direct warning to Owino, who has recently been perceived as charting an independent political path.
Observers noted that while the Embakasi MP enjoyed massive support from the youth, the caution signals a growing concern about the balance between his rising star power and the long-established political hierarchy.
“The ground is boiling, and the people are watching closely,” the youth added, warning Owino to tread carefully. “Youth power is rising, and the message is simple: respect our leaders, respect our heritage.”
As Luo politics continue to evolve, Owino finds himself walking a fine line between growing popularity and the need to align with the region’s revered leadership.
