NAIROBI, Kenya — October 30, 2026 — Political heat intensified today in Lavington, Nairobi, following the official launch of the Linda Mwanainchi Movement Party by Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna.
The event, packed to capacity with prominent figures from the United Opposition, saw former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua drop a major political bombshell, declaring his readiness to serve as Sifuna’s Presidential Chief Campaigner if the opposition settles on the Nairobi Senator as its candidate.
However, the ruling coalition swiftly dismissed the political pairing. Reacting to the development, Kericho County Senator and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot mocked the potential opposition ticket, stating that President William Samoei Ruto would easily win re-election without breaking a sweat.
According to Cheruiyot, if the opposition settles on Sifuna as its candidate with Gachagua steering the campaign, President Ruto should step back from active political campaigns altogether and dedicate his time entirely to executive state duties and transforming the country.

“If this clueless opposition settles on Edwin Sifuna as the presidential candidate and Rigathi as lead campaigner, we will respectfully ask President William Samoei Ruto to focus on the serious work of transforming the Republic and allow Kimani Ichung’wa to lead us in the little task ahead,” Cheruiyot declared, summing up the matchup as a straightforward victory for the administration. “Hio ni game ya kucheza with eyes closed,” he added.
The unveiling of Sifuna’s Linda Mwanainchi Movement marks a significant realignment within the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With key leaders endorsing the movement, political observers anticipate a heated standoff as both the government and the unified opposition sharpen their tools for the upcoming contest.
