Orange Democratic Party (ODM) Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna has found himself at the center of a growing storm within his own party following remarks he made during a political gathering in Lugari.
The comments, delivered in the presence of senior ODM leaders including Siaya Governor Dr. Oburu Odinga, have sparked sharp reactions and accusations from within the party ranks.
According to a video seen by this publication, Sifuna cautioned ODM leaders against making unilateral decisions without consulting party members and the broader electorate.
In what many have interpreted as a bold and confrontational address, the Nairobi Senator warned that some individuals were taking advantage of the absence of the party’s longtime leader Raila Odinga to issue statements that, in his words, “do not reflect the true position of the party.”

Sifuna further clarified that Raila Odinga had been clear in his last public engagements that there was no directive for ODM supporters to chant either “one term” or “two terms” in reference to the current political arrangement.
He maintained that the only binding agreement Raila spoke about was cooperation up to 2027, after which fresh political decisions would be made through consultations.
His remarks were met with mixed reactions from the crowd, with some cheering while others appeared visibly uncomfortable.
However, the speech has since landed Sifuna in trouble within ODM. A section of party leaders has accused him of undermining party unity and allegedly advancing narratives that favor the opposition.
The situation escalated after Nyatike MP Oketch Sella publicly attacked Sifuna, claiming that the late Raila Odinga had once described him as a “snitch” before his death in India.
The allegations have deepened divisions within ODM, with some leaders calling for disciplinary action while others defend Sifuna’s right to speak his mind.
As the debate rages on, the Lugari speech continues to fuel internal tensions, raising fresh questions about leadership, unity, and the future direction of the Orange Democratic Party.
