Ruto Finally Speaks On Koome And Masengeli War Of Words, Give Way Forward

For a week now. Judiciary and national Police service has been having war of words on provisions of law as per the constitution. Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli while addressing Journalists insisted that he was justified to assign or recall officers.

This was after he withdrew police officers attached to Justice Lawrence Mugambi of high court. This came just days after the judge jailed him for six months.

Speaking in Lower Kabete, Nairobi during the launching of Police reforms initiative. The head of state acknowledged the fact judiciary and police are independent institutions. However, he asked them to work together for the great people of Kenya instead of having a tiff.

“National Police service and Judiciary service commission are independent institutions. But they should work together for the people of Kenya who are waiting for service delivery.”Said President William Ruto.

What Happened Between Masengeli And Koome?

The tiff between Martha Koome and acting inspector general of Police Gilbert Masengeli started after courts sentenced Masengeli to six months in prison.

This was after he failed to appear before judge Lawrence Mugambi seven times to explain abductions in Kitengela. Two brothers were allegedly abducted by unknown people for taking part in protests. It is not clear were they were taken or exact charges they are facing.
